AGM - Annual General Meeting

September 19,2020

It was touch & go with the weather, but we did it - - held our AGM at the facility, outdoors, with social distancing, & great member turnout. Thanks everyone for paying close attention to all the reports, & voting to install our new Executive Committee.

( see updated Executive Committee listing here )

This was such an extraordinary season, & it was great to see everyone in-person - - not in a video meeting. Let's hope that a return to NORMAL is not too far off.

FUN Bowling with our CITY Team

September 16, 2020

The Club always strives to maintain a good working relationship with city management. The CITY of COQUITLAM owns & maintains the facility, & for 30 years the Club has enjoyed playing our game at one of the best designed & best maintained lawn bowling facilities anywhere - truly a sparkling jewel in the city's crown. It was our pleasure to host a group of senior city managers from the Parks, Recreation & Culture departments so they could gain an appreciation of the sport, & have a fun way of saying farewell to General Manager Donnie Rosa , heading to a new career challenge with Vancouver Parks.  Everyone had a good time with 2 games of fun bowling and building good relationships.

The next 30 years should be great, especially when the pandemic ends ...

Safety Team - Wind Up Session

September 13,2020

We would not have had a season at all without the hours of work put in by our Safety Team.  The Return to Play protocols are very strict, but they allowed our members to get out on the green and stay safe. Cheers to the Club Executive Committee for arranging a Wind Up bowling session for the Safety Team, with a few FUN games, refreshments, & doughnuts.  There is no end in sight for the pandemic & we will no doubt need our hard working team again next season.  The 2020 season was far from normal, but thanks to all for making it happen - without all the hard work we would not have had a season at all.

Moving Forward to RTP Phase 2

August 5,2020

The club Executive Committee is very pleased to announce that our PHASE 2 Return to Play (RTP) Guidelines have been approved. The changes will take effect on July 27, & include these additional allowances:

 - 2 rakes on each lane - each used by only ONE bowler

 - 2 jacks on each lane - each used by only ONE bowler

 - 1 measure on each lane - to be used by only ONE bowler

 - some benches open for use - must be sanitized by user when done

 - full games & scoring - still without using scoreboards

These new allowances are designed to keep us all safe while enjoying our sport in a way that is closer to "NORMAL".  It is still very important to maintain physical distancing, to wash our hands often, & to follow all safety protocols.

Welcome to Phase 2 Everyone !!

RTP - Week ONE

June 29,2020

It feels great to be back on the Green, even though we have to adapt to many new ways of doing things. Our new on-line booking system is working well - another change that we are adapting to. The only 'downer' in Week ONE was the rain wash out of our Thursday session. On Saturday we had our first full house - 20 bowlers having practice games of PAIRS on 5 lanes, all physically distanced & observing all RETURN TO PLAY protocols.  Huge thanks to all who made it happen - the Safety Officers & all our other volunteers. Looking ahead, Week TWO is shaping up very nicely, with sign-up links for the whole week released on Saturday afternoon. Thank you to our members, who are all taking the changes in stride & once again starting to enjoy the game we love.

Let's stay safe & have FUN

Good Bowling - 2020

June 29,2020

Our members are back on the green, with strict Covid-19 protocols in place.  Wellness checks are documented on every visit, the clubhouse is closed, equipment is limited, a Safety Officer is on site, the benches are OFF LIMITS, sanitizing stations are in multiple locations, & physical distancing is THE RULE.  We have implemented an on-line booking system which is working well, & the green is in tip top condition, the best we have seen in several years. Monday's bowlers enjoyed their practice games of Pairs & Cutthroat on a gorgeous sunny day.

It is so great to be bowling again !!

Return to Play (RTP) - even closer

June 23,2020

Everyone wants to bowl - Everyone needs to be safe. Making it happen is both difficult & extremely important. Our members are all 50 years or older, putting us all into a COVID-19 high risk category. An enormous & unprecedented effort is being made by lawn bowling organizations all around the world in formulating safe & workable ways to "return to play". The CLBC Executive Committee has now completed a detailed "Walk -Through" of the many protocols & procedures that MUST be adhered to in order to get back on the green. Be prepared for all new ways to enjoy our favourite sport, from how to book a lane, who can touch the jack, & where you can & cannot go in the facility. We expect to be bowling soon - stay tuned !!

Return to Play

June 15,2020

The Executive Committee has now completed the RETURN TO PLAY (RTP) Guidelines & filed the document with BOWLS BC, as well as passing a Special Resolution to accept the guidelines. This was accomplished at two virtual Exec Committee meetings over the last few weeks. Also, the city of Coquitlam has announced the re-opening of many sport facilities, including the lawn bowling facility, as of June 15. The club is actively developing plans for start-up, acknowledging that lawn bowling is at PHASE ONE of re-opening, which means that only training & coaching is allowed.  The RTP document is very comprehensive & designed to keep bowlers safe in terms of COVID-19. Thanks to Bowls Canada, Bowls BC, & ViaSport for all their hard work in helping us to get to this point.  There are many planning details to coordinate & finalize, but a return to bowling is now in sight.

With the COVID-19 comprehensive restrictions now in place, the Club has regretfully taken the decision to NOT accept new memberships in 2020.

COVID 19 - What it means for us ...

March 23,2020

Our 2020 season is on hold. The city has closed down the entire facility, along with many other municipal facilities. National & Provincial lawn bowling tournaments are all cancelled or postponed, as well as all Vancouver & District (V&D) tournaments & events.  We will open our 2020 season as soon as it is safe to do so.  Please stay safe at a healthy distance.

Keep checking back here for updates.

WINTER - work on the Green

February 13,2020

The city of Coquitlam is working on replacing  the perimeter walkway boards on the west side of the green. The other sides of the green will also be worked on where needed.  The work will be finished shortly and certainly completed before our season starts.  In the fall, after our 2020 season is over, they will work on the turf perimeter boards (plinth boards) around the green.  This is all great as it means that the city intends to continue with a natural grass bowling green. Click on the Photo album button below to have a look at the work so far, & have a look at the upgraded PHOTOS page and note the new ways to view the 2020 photo albums.  You can now LIKE them & download all the photos you want - ENJOY !!
